Success Story on JG-11
JG-11 a drought tolerant Bengal gram was introduced in Palur village of Peddamudeum mandal in Kadapa (Dt) during Rabi 2004-05. JG-11 shown 15.79 percent increase in yield over the local Annegiri Variety. During Rabi 2005-06, the variety distributed in Palur of Peddamudeum mandal and Peddasettipalli of Proddatur mandal. JG-11 had shown 18.58 percent increase in field over the check. Farmers got an additional of Rs.5500 per hectare by cultivating JG-11 Variety. During Rabi 2006-07 the variety was distributed in Arkatavemula, Korrapadu & Somapuram of Rajupalem mandal. The variety JG-11 shown 40.84 percent incidence in field over the local Annegiri variety. Average Rain fall during Rabi 2006-07 was 305mm (14 rainy days), in this drought conditions local Annegiri variety was damage & given only 10 to 12 Q/ha. But, JG-11 had given 17.4 q/ha which was very much attracted by the farmers, JG-11 is tolerant to wilt, drought, plant height is 36 cm and number of pods per plant is 55 and comes to maturity one week earlier than Annegiri. In overall Kadapa district the JH-11 variety replaced Annegiri in about 20,000 ha. Department of Agriculture is distributing 2500 q of JG-11 seed in Rajupalem mandal which is a major Bengal gram grown mandal. |
